Controlled Drug Total Destruction Kit

Denaturing makes a controlled drug irretrievable. Total destruction goes a step further and breaks the medication apart. This range is for organisations whose own policy, or whose waste contractor, asks for destruction rather than encapsulation alone, and for anyone handling drugs where the risk of diversion is treated as high.

These jars contain DrugshelPLUS™. An oxidising agent breaks the chemical bonds holding the waste medication together, and activated carbon then absorbs the constituent parts so that within 24 hours nothing usable remains. The carbon is sealed inside a water soluble sachet rather than mixed loose through the powder, which matters more than it sounds: activated carbon is microporous and fills up with whatever is in the air around it, so loose carbon has often exhausted much of its capacity before the jar is ever opened. Ours is exposed only once water is added. The activated contents set into a black gel; keep the jar in the controlled drugs cabinet for 48 hours, then pass it to an authorised medical waste contractor.

Five sizes are stocked, from 250ml through 500ml, 1 litre and 2 litre to 5 litre. Choose in the same way you would for a denaturing kit: small jars where drugs are destroyed singly as they are returned, larger jars where a pharmacy or a ward accumulates returns between collections.
