Worktop Laboratory Waste Container
Laboratory discard accumulates at the bench, not at the bin. A container that has to be walked across the room gets used less carefully than one standing beside the work. These jars are sized and shaped for the worktop: a wide neck so that swabs, tips, tubes and small consumables drop straight in without fiddling, and clear plastic so that anyone can see what is in a jar and how full it is before deciding to close it off.
They take all types of discard generated in a laboratory environment and can be either incinerated or autoclaved. During autoclaving the plastic deforms deliberately, which lets steam penetrate the contents rather than sealing them inside a rigid shell. Each container holds Germshel™, an absorbent that takes up contaminated residues so that a jar carrying liquid does not slop when it is moved. They are single use, and they are not sharps containers; needles, blades and glass need a purpose made sharps bin instead.
Two sizes are listed. The 2 litre jar is the everyday bench container for a single workstation, replaced often enough that waste does not stand around. The 5 litre jar is for higher throughput benches, teaching laboratories and university departments, or any bench where the smaller jar is being changed more than once a day. Both are supplied in quantity to laboratories, universities and hospital pathology departments.
