Our Controlled Drug Total Destruction Kit contains DrugshelPLUS™. DrugshelPLUS™ is designed to prevent the retrieval and consumption of the contents. Once the jar has been filled with waste medication as per instructions and the water is added DrugshelPLUS™ is activated, it will then turn into a black semi-solid gel encapsulating the medication. DrugshelPLUS™ contains an oxidising agent used to break down chemical bonds to destroy the structure of the waste medication.
Our new Controlled Drug Total Destruction Kit contains activated carbon to absorb the constituent parts of the waste medication added to the kit rendering them useless. In order to ensure activated carbons efficacy its exposure to air must be limited. This is because activated carbon is microporous and will absorb airborne particles until it is full and can’t absorb anything else. Drug destruction powders which contain loose activated carbon within the powder will work less efficiently as the activated carbon is more likely to be full before the drugs are added to the kit. The activated carbon within our new Controlled Drug Total Destruction Kit has not been exposed to air as it is contained within a water soluble sachet and is only released once water is added.
Controlled Drug Destruction Kit Instructions
- Remove container lid. Do not remove the inner sachet.
- Fill with medication, no more than half full.
- Replace the container lid & shake the powder around to ensure the powder has encased the contents.
- Again remove container lid, fill to capacity with water.
- Replace the container lid securely, shake thoroughly for 30 seconds and the contents will then congeal. DrugshelPLUS™ has now been activated.
- Store in controlled drugs cabinet for 48 hours after activation.
- Dispose of via authorised medical waste contractor.
DrugshelPLUS™ complies with Misuse of Drugs Regulations (1989) Amended. Do not remove or consuming the contents. Keep out of reach of children.
