Doom Kits and Doop Jars
Doom kit is the trade name for a controlled drug denaturing kit. Here is what they are, how they work, and which size you need.
If you came looking for doom kits, you are in the right place. Doom kit and doop jar are the names most pharmacies, wards and surgeries actually use for what we sell as a controlled drug denaturing kit. It is the same product.
A denaturing kit is a rigid jar containing Drugshel, a powder that turns to a gel when water is added. Returned and waste controlled drugs go into the jar, the gel holds them, a biocide neutralises the contents, and a bitter agent discourages anyone from consuming what is inside. The sealed jar is then handed to your licensed waste contractor.
How a doom kit works
What goes in
Returned and date expired controlled drugs: tablets, capsules, ampoules, patches, liquids and part used doses. One jar takes a mix of forms.
How it is activated
Add water to the powder. The contents set into a gel within minutes, so the jar can be sealed and stored safely until collection.
Who uses them
Community and hospital pharmacies, GP surgeries, care homes, hospices, veterinary practices, prison healthcare and ambulance services.
Which size do I need
Size is the only real decision, and it follows how much controlled drug waste you generate between collections rather than how large the site is.
30ml and 100ml, in packs of ten: single ampoules and small doses, for community nurses and dispensing rounds.
250ml and 500ml: everyday dispensary and surgery sizes, holding several days to a week of returns.
1 litre and 2 litre: GP surgeries, care homes and wards with steady weekly returns.
5 litre and 10 litre: stock clearances, date expired batches and decommissioning.
Denaturing or total destruction
We make two ranges. Drugshel denaturing kits set the waste into a gel so it cannot be recovered or consumed. DrugshelPLUS total destruction kits go further: an oxidising agent breaks down the chemical structure of the medicine, and activated carbon absorbs what remains.
If you need to show that a medicine has been destroyed rather than only made unusable, choose the total destruction range.
